Menai Bay Sailing Trip from Zanzibar

Your sailing experience begins, following pickup from your Zanzibar hotel, in the southerly fishing village of Fumba at 9:30am. There, you will cast off into Menai Bay aboard a traditional wooden sailing dhow. On the boat you will meet many new friends from all around the world, and get to know them in anticipation of your great day out together. The first morning stop is at a large powdery sandbank where sunshades are set up. The crew will help fit you with snorkel gear before you embark on a guided snorkel to two fabulous snorkeling locations. The water here is pure and clear and filled with many sea creatures. The crew will provide you with young, fresh coconuts to drink and eat, along with delicious local snacks. Later, the boat will meet up with other dhows on Kwale island where you will be greeted with a hibiscus juice, sodas, or beer (alcohol is at your own expense), kicking off your delicious seafood lunch. (Vegetarian lunch options are available; please advise at the time of booking.) After lunch, a huge spread of exotic fruits are sliced and served right at the table. You can then spend time with a coffee and Amarula (a local liquor) while relaxing on a sun bed. Rested and ready for more play, you'll join up with another group for a fun sail on a ngalawa – a local-style double rigger canoe, and then venture along inland trails to climb an impressive giant baobab tree. The rest of the afternoon is spent lounging on a white sand beach.En route back to Fumba, the crew will help spot bottlenose and humpback dolphins; they are spotted 85 percent of the time. The dhow will follow the animals at an unobtrusive distance, allowing everyone to marvel as the dolphins leap through the sea. After some time, the crew will hoist the sails and the dhow will glide back toward Fumba. The boat returns around 4:30pm and the tour concludes with a return transfer to your Zanzibar hotel. This tour is not recommended for participants with heart complaints or other serious medical conditions.
