Hot, barren and dusty, the 900-sq-km Karoo National Park features impressive Karoo landscapes and representative flora. You'll likely spot zebras, springboks, kudus and red hartebeests as well as scurrying dassies (agile, rodent-like mammals, also called hyraxes). Lions have been reintroduced and if you're really lucky you might also spot black rhinos.
Wildlife sightings are not as great as in some of the northern parks, but there is plenty to see for the landscape lover. Don't miss the Klipspringer's Pass, where you stand a good chance of seeing the small antelope the winding road is named for.
