Van Gogh is Bipolar

Top choice in Manila

Every bit as interesting as it sounds, this chaotic restaurant inhabits a tiny space packed with curios and artworks. It's run by artist Jetro, who cooks entirely original, delicious food in a riotous atmosphere that'll likely see you dine wearing a flamboyant hat (grab one from the hatstand). Dinners are three- to five-course set meals, while lunch is à la carte.

Jetro established the place as a sanctuary to assist with non-pharmaceutical treatment of his bipolar condition. The shoes-off dining room emits a lovely lemongrass fragrance, and cooking incorporates natural ingredients with reputed mood-enhancing properties. Reservations are strongly recommended for dinner, especially at weekends. VGB led the emergence of Maginhawa St as a hotbed of Manila's culinary scene.
