Welcome to Maligcong & Mainit
The towering, sprawling stone-walled rice terraces of Maligcong rival those of Banaue and Batad elsewhere in the Cordillera, but draw only a fraction of the visitors. Mainit has some scalding hot springs that periodically pop up in random places, several interesting ato (dap-ay or outdoor patio) and backyard mausoleums adorned with carabao horns – a symbol of the deceased’s wealth.
It's a steep two-hour grunt from Maligcong to Mainit, up and down a 300m spine. You can also hike to Bangaan, near Sagada, from Mainit via Dalican (six hours over very steep terrain). Both hikes require a guide.
