Aoshima (青島) is a tiny palm-covered island (1.5km in circumference), and also the name of the adjacent mainland town, one of Japan's more relaxed, alternative communities. Surfers and sunbathers come for its lovely beaches, which are strewn with sand-dollars after rough storms. A quiet alternative to staying in central Miyazaki.
