Welcome to Jish

Jish was settled by migrants from what is now Lebanon in the 18th and 19th centuries. Aramaic, the language of Jesus and an important source of identity for Maronites, is still used here in church liturgy.

During the Great Jewish Revolt (66–70 CE), Jish – then, as now, known in Hebrew as Gush Halav – was the last place in the Galilee to fall to the Romans, according to Josephus Flavius.
