Atherton Tablelands Food and Wine Tour from Cairns

Your day starts with morning pickup at your Cairns or Northern Beaches hotel. Travel up to the inland hills in a comfortable air-conditioned minicoach driven by your guide. Stop at Lake Barrine, located at 2,395 feet (730 meters) above sea level within Crater Lakes National Park. The biggest of the natural volcanic lakes in the region, Lake Barrine is known for its towering twin Kauri pines that are estimated to be 1,000 years old. Follow your guide on a short walk in the fresh mountain air to see this national treasure.Then have a seat on the balcony of the 80-year-old tea house and take in views of Lake Barrine while snacking on a delicious Devonshire tea consisting of locally grown tea or coffee and fresh-baked scones.Continue your route through the Atherton Tablelands, traveling through the historic towns of Yungaburra, Atherton, Tolga and Mareeba. Stop at local farms for a behind-the-scenes look at their operations, with exclusive access to a macadamia nut farm and a tour of a coffee plantation. To the discerning traveller, the opportunity to enjoy customised and personalised helicopter flights and packages is now here on the Atherton Tablelands for the first time, and we will get you to your destination from Cairns or the Northern Beaches upon your request. You will be collected from your hotel accommodation in or near Cairns at approx. 7:30am and taken by road to the Atherton Tablelands via the spectacular McAllister Range to the Tableland town of Mareeba and its airport. Here you will meet your pilot and become familiar with your aircraft during a safety briefing. Then it’s time to fly. Fly south on your 30-minute flight from Mareeba airport over Tinaroo Dam and the spillway. Tinaroo is not only a popular fishing and water skiing haven but also the source of the highly productive Mareeba-Dimbulah irrigation scheme, but most importantly makes for some mind-blowing photos that even the locals haven’t seen. From here, it's on to the lush rainforest and undulating farmland around the picture-perfect crater Lakes regions of Lake Barrine and Eacham. Your pilot will circle around these crater lakes and even hover for that perfect photo opportunity. Now its time to circle around some of the most fertile agricultural farming country you'll ever see, with the famous extinct volcanic mountains of the 7 sisters as your backdrop. Then you fly over the picturesque historical village of Yungaburra, don’t forget to wave to the locals below. Upon your return to Mareeba airport there is still time to capture different angles of the red soil farming lands across Mango, avocado banana macadamia and coffee plantations before landing.Now it's time to travel by road I take you to see the most outstanding scenery you have just flown over, but now we get to experience the flora and fauna at ground level. walk slowly through the forest and take in the sound of many various native birds unique to Australias tropical rainforests. Cairns Atherton Tableland Diversity Tour

You will be collected from your Cairns accommodation and taken directly to the Smithfield Skyrail station, embarking upon your Skyrail adventure expect to be awestruck as you gently sail above the World Heritage Listed Tropical rainforest of Kuranda towards the Atherton Tablelands, truly a sight never to be missed. Take in the sights of Barron Gorge and its spectacular waterfall. photograph ancient world heritage rainforest and the spectacular coral coast and fringe. Now its time to catch your cruise down the Barron River, You can expect to see the endangered Southern Cassowary, an array of rare bird life, reptiles and plant life endemic to this area. Your cruise time will also include a delicious morning tea. Continuing half an hour by road we begin to see contrasting changes in the landscape as we drive towards the Savannah Region and dine on fine cuisine for lunch at a well-known outback Cafe' or a working coffee plantation situated in Mareeba, either location offers a beautiful backdrop looking over the peaks of the Great Dividing Range and savannah gardens.  After lunch, it's time for your optional 40 min scenic helicopter flight from Mareeba Airport. Fly over Tinaroo Dam, Lake Barrine, Lake Eacham and the Tablelands heritage town of Yungaburra. You can even ask the pilot to hover or slowdown to capture that once in a lifetime shot. After your Helicopter adventure, it's time to explore the Golden Drop Mango Winery, a large-scale, tropical fruit winery on a working mango plantation. Here you can sample and purchase your choice of lovely refreshing tropical Mango Wines, together with Citrus Cellos, Mango Port, and Golden Mango liqueur style wines.
