Welcome to Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area
Half the fun is just getting here. Access is via spectacular Waipoli Rd, off Hwy 377, not far from the latter's southern intersection with the Kula Hwy (Hwy 37). This narrow ribbon twists back and forth for miles, never seeming to end. And given the views, you won’t want it to. Layers of clouds drift in and out, revealing panoramic vistas across green rolling hills to the islands of Lanaʻi and Kahoʻolawe. In the morning, you might see paragliders floating overhead,
The road has some soft shoulders, but the first 6 miles are paved. It becomes dirt after entering the Kula Forest Reserve. If mud prevails, the final 4 miles to the campground require a 4WD vehicle. Otherwise you can crawl slowly to the finish line.
