Lording it over the southern tip of Kowloon, the throne-like Peninsula (c 1928) is one of the world’s great hotels. It was once called ‘the finest hotel east of Suez’, and your dilemma will be how to get here: landing on the rooftop helipad or arriving in one of the hotel’s 16-strong fleet of Rolls Royce Phantoms.
Another dilemma is choosing which of the 300 classic, modern Chinese-influenced rooms is for you; staying in the 20-storey annexe offers spectacular harbour views, but the original building has glorious heritage interiors. Taking afternoon tea here is a wonderful experience – dress neatly and be prepared to queue for a table.
