Welcome to Chichigalpa
Chichigalpa, Nicaragua cutest-named town, is best known as the source of Flor de Caña rum, made in seven beloved shades, from crystal clear to deepest amber. It's also home to Ingenio San Antonio, the country's largest sugar refinery, fed by the cane fields that carpet the skirts of Volcán San Cristóbal, which rises from the lowlands just 15km from the city center. Both the sugar refinery and the Flor de Caña distillery belong to the affluent Pellas family that has been producing rum from 1890 onwards, with a short break during the revolution. The rum factory, hosting several popular tours daily, is Chichigalpa's sole attraction.
