London Dungeon

Top choice amusement park in The South Bank

A scary tour of London's gruesome history awaits. Expect darkness, sudden loud noises, flashing lights, squirts of unspecified liquid and lots of unpleasant smells as you shuffle through themed rooms where actors, often covered in fake blood, tell creepy stories and goad visitors. It's interactive, it's spooky, and it's a lot of fun. Queues are long, even for those with pre-booked tickets. It takes around 1½ hours to work your way through the gory dungeon. Not suitable for young children.

The highlights are the vaudevillian delights of being trapped in Sweeney Todd's barber shop, muddling your way through the utterly disorienting Whitechapel Labyrinth as you attempt to escape Jack the Ripper, and being sentenced by a mad, bewigged judge on trumped-up charges. The grand finale is the Drop Dead Drop Ride, which has you 'plummeting' to your death by hanging from the gallows.
