Welcome to Třeboň
Třeboň is known throughout the Czech Republic for its many traditional fish ponds, which produce much of the carp consumed around the country on Christmas Eve. The ponds have been used to raise carp since the 15th century, but these days they're also prized for aesthetic reasons: they make a picturesque backdrop while hiking or biking through the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape region, which has been designated a Unesco Biosphere Reserve.
Třeboň itself is a nicely preserved period piece of Bohemian Renaissance architecture, mixed in with a handful of sights and some decent hotels. It can be visited as an easy day trip from České Budějovice.
