Atacama Salt Tour from San Pedro de Atacama with Los Flamencos

Your day trip from San Pedro de Atacama begins with hotel pickup by minivan starting at 06:30 a.m. from their respective hotels (approximate travel time between hotels 30min). Our first stop will be after approximately 1 hour of trip in the high plateau Miscanti and Miñiques lagoons located at 4200 a.s.l. In these lagoons breakfast is taken and you can appreciate the fauna of the place.Then we go to Piedras Rojas where we visit Salar de Aguas Calientes and Salar de Talar, where you can see the rock formations reddish colors. The next stop is in the Atacameño village of Socaire, where you have lunch in a typical restaurant. You can also see the cultivation terraces and the village church. Then we visit the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt flat in Chile, where the flamingos national reserve is located and we will visit the Chaxa lagoon to observe 3 types of flamingos, as well as other species that inhabit the lagoons of the to Salt.As the last stop, we will visit the village of Toconao where we will appreciate the fantastic architecture of the bell tower and the town church, to return to San Pedro de Atacama around 4:30 p.m, driving you directly to your Hotel contact (same as the pick up).

Moon Valley Sightseeing Tour from San Pedro de Atacama

The best place to enjoy the much anticipated Chilean sunset is in the Salt Mountain range, the location of the Mars and Moon valleys. The valleys contain a variety of stone, sand-like formations - a result of water and wind. As the sun sinks below the horizon, experience the wonder of the area and its close resemblance to the moon.In the evening, one of the most expected moments is the sunset and the best place to appreciate it is the mountain range of the Salt, with its Mars and Moon Valleys that are saline and sacrilegious conformations product of the mineralogical folding that has taken place for one hundred million years and that originated small mountains of capricious and sculptural forms that at sunset resemble a Lunar landscape.Our journey begins with pick up from your selected Hotel from 15:00 (winter time) or 15:30 (summer time). We will visit 3 main points, starting with a view to the Cordillera de la Sal in the Valley of death. Then we visit the Licanantay viewpoint where you can see the mountains of salt from above. Finally, we will visit the Valley of the Moon, where 3 sites are visited. First, a tour of the salt caves is subsequently the salt statues "Las Tres Marias", the amphitheater and the large sand dune in the central part of the Moon Valley. We wait for the sunset at the Coyote stone. After an incredible scenic sunset, we begin the trip back to your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.

Salt Flat and Toconao Guided Tour from San Pedro Atacama

Visit the Atacama Salt Flat and neighboring village of Toconao on this 4-hour tour from San Pedro de Atacama with a local guide. At 1,200 square miles (3,000 sq km), the salt flat is one of the largest in the world; you’ll see a piece of it at the Soncor section, which is home to the famous flamingos of Chaxa Lagoon, part of Los Flamencos National Reserve. On the way to the salt flat, stop through Toconao to browse its handicraft market, and visit Quebrada de Jerez.To the south of San Pedro de Atacama we find our first stop: Toconao. This town was built entirely with liparite stone, of volcanic origin, it is also recognized for the interesting artisan objects of the same material. We will visit its square, the church of San Lucas and its bell tower built in 1750, made of adobe and cactus wood, one of the most imposing in the region and declared a National Monument. In the Jerez Valley we will see the richness of the Toconares, a canyon that thanks to the microclimate that it has and the waters that descend from the mountain range, enjoys fertility and turns the sector into one of the greenest places in the desert, we will observe fruit trees and varied flora. Finally, we will visit the Soncor sector of the great Salar de Atacama. At Laguna Chaxa we can enjoy the varied bird species and the color of the flamingos, the deep blue of the Atacama sky, the heights of the Andean volcanoes and the red sunset will give us the farewell to return to San Pedro de Atacama.

Atacama Salt Flat and Toconao Town Tour

Starting from your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama, head to the Toconao village, towards the Jerez Canyon (Quebrada de Jerez) where you will be able to see the flora and fauna of this beautiful Valley, located at an altitude of 2.475 mts. Once in Toconao, stop at the San Lucas Church, made of mud and straw with its typical tower bell. Visit the local handicraft fair very popular for its Alpaca wool and creative crafts made of cactus or volcanic stone. Your journey will continue to the fabulous Atacama Salt Flat, the largest in Chile and one of the 5 largest in the world. Continue along a small path to the Chaxa Lagoon.
