Bicycle

Cyclists in Bermuda should bear in mind the narrow roads, the hilly topography in parts and the heat and humidity in summer. There are no designated bike lanes with the exception of the Railway Trail. Bicycle rental is available from scooter-rental outlets, such as Oleander Cycles. Elbow Beach Cycles also has electric bicycles for hire.

Boat

Sea Express operates four main ferry routes; the Pink and Green Routes, both of which have stops en route, are mainly for commuters. Scooters are allowed only on the Blue Route and between Rockaway and Hamilton on the Green Route. The Green Route runs early in the morning and then in the late afternoon. The Blue Route runs extra evening services on Wednesdays during Harbour Nights in summer. There are fewer services on weekends.

Car & Motorcycle

There is no car rental on the island, but four island-wide outlets rent 50cc and 125cc scooters from $50 per day. Oleander Cycles is the largest one, but Elbow Beach Cycles is equally good, and can arrange island-wide scooter delivery. All liveries offer free transfers between your accommodations and the nearest branch to collect scooters. Driving is on the left. The speed limit is 35km/h though few Bermudians stick to it. The law requires you to wear a helmet. Legal parking spots are provided in built-up areas.

Taxi

Several taxi companies operate in Bermuda, and they can be a relatively inexpensive way of getting from A to B provided there are several of you. All taxis are metered, with rates fixed by the government at $2.80 per mile and flag fare of $5.20. $1 surcharge applies per piece of luggage. Taxis can also be hired out for a daily rate. Some drivers are officially registered as tour guides (front windows display a blue flag). It's highly advisable to book a taxi well in advance for flights and any plans you may have for Friday and Saturday nights.
