What Happened in Mui ne on the Boxing Day Tsunami
Blog: Fish Egg Tree - 26 December 2009
I’m not going to bother to write about how terrible the Tsunami was 5 years ago. There was no devastation in Vietnam, where I of course was at the time, so I’ll let others memorialize the tragedy. It was however, a turning point for Mui Ne, about which many people are unaware. It was the season the Russians came.

Top 5 Memorable Massages in the World
Blog: Canada's Adventure Couple - 11 December 2009
Yesterday we had our first massage in India. It was a memorable experience and you can read about it here. We had the full body Ayurvedic Massage will therapeudic oils. I am sure that we will be having more as we go through our travels. It made us think about the other memorable massages that we have had on our past travels. We love getting a massage, it is a luxury that we cannot afford to have regularly at home, so we take advantage of it wherever we go. Some experiences have been better than others and some stand our in our memories better than others.

Top 3 Travel Hugs
Blog: REID ON TRAVEL - 10 December 2009
Thursday is for HuggersDo we hug more when we travel? I mean, hug people you've known for 10 minutes and will never see again? I've had some memorable ones -- by teachers on train platforms, grandparents on Polish balconies, drunk telephone line workers near a crocodile-filled pond in the Yucatan. But I've narrowed it down to my most memorable trio:

Kiva Love Machine Leads to Visiting Samoa
Blog: Kiva Stories from the Field - 8 December 2009
By Alex Duong, KF9, Vietnam I’m going to let you in on a secret: Kiva is one big hunk of love. Understanding the phrase ‘Kiva love machine’ sheds light on what motivates the work of Kiva fellows everyday. Why does Rebecca Corey rise at 5:30AM to catch the bus to work? Why does Thomas Gold risk [...]

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Blog: Patrick and Katrina do the Globe - 1 December 2009
Continuing our pattern of only visiting Vietnamese cities that begin with the letter "H", we made our way down to Ho Chi Minh City by plane. The busride would have been 20 hours and Patrick was not ready to snuggle another Vietnamese man. Plus the flight cost only $10 more.

Hoi An, Vietnam
Blog: Patrick and Katrina do the Globe - 27 November 2009
It's pretty easy to live the good life in Vietnam. Twenty dollars in Hoi An will buy you a spacious hotel room with canopy bed and flat screen TV, and the food in town was plentiful and cheap.

Hue, Vietnam

We have taken a lot of overnight buses during this trip, but the ride from Hanoi to Hue was the coziest.

White Waterfall (Thac Trang, Tam Lanh)
Blog: Travel Details on worldX.info - 23 November 2009
Vietnam » It has been theorized that if one gathers large enough samples one will eventually find multiple identical occurrences; for instance, in a clump of sand on the palm of one's hand one is not likely to find two identically shaped motes, however, if one is to sample ten thousands more clumps or even all the sands on the beach one will most likely find two or more identical motes in terms of shape and, perhaps, weight.

Hanoi, Vietnam
Blog: Patrick and Katrina do the Globe - 23 November 2009
We quickly learned that in Vietnam there is never a need to worry about transportation. The streets are teeming with people making offers, from taxis and trishaws to motorbike drivers with room on the back of their rides.

Thailand's Internet Problems Bigger than Vietnam's Facebook
Blog: Fish Egg Tree - 20 November 2009
As frustrating as Vietnam’s apparent government-initiated black-out of Facebook has been this month, we can be thankful that Vietnam is not Thailand. It might surprise people to know that Thailand is one of the most repressive countries in Southeast Asia when it comes to internet access.

Snake Village
Blog: Where is Rob? - 20 November 2009
I wasn't really sure what to expect when I got on the bus on the way to Snake Village. I had been in Hanoi just over 12 hours at this point and had only just checked into my new hostel when Tommy and I got signed up to the trip. Drinking a beating snake’s heart was not something I thought I would actually end up doing during my time in Vietnam. However when the opportunity to experience this [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more!

Dalat
Blog: Where is Rob? - 20 November 2009
We had one of two options for our 4th stop on our open bus ticket either Muine another beach resort a few hours from Nhatrang or Dalat a cooler city high up in the mountains of central Vietnam. As we had done the beaches in Thailand and were just leaving a beach resort here and in the middle of planning going back to Thailand to do the beaches again we thought it was a good idea to skip the beach [[ This is a content summary only. My Son
Blog: Where is Rob? - 20 November 2009
An early 4am start to get to "My Son" just because Lonely Planet told me to. My Son is just a small site containing several ruins of some Hindu temples constructed around the 7Th century. There's not really to much to say about the place really, it was just a few temples some still standing, some just rubble dotted around a site that must have been no bigger than an acre. For some reason the [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more!

Nha Trang
Blog: Where is Rob? - 20 November 2009
Nha Trang is our third of five on our way down the south coast of Vietnam and it was here we finally caught up with the sun again. Far less humid than Bangkok and with a cooling sea breeze it was a nice place to be (weather wise). We only ended up staying here 2 nights in the end due to the next bus being a 7 hour day trip, which is absolutely rubbish as it eats into a day we don't really have! Hoi An
Blog: Where is Rob? - 20 November 2009
When I have described to people what Hoi An is like to people who have asked me I always say that everywhere you look in Hoi An looks like a postcard. The place didn't seem real to me. It was a little bit like when I went to Venice as it just seemed like a movie set, it was just far to picturesque. It meant I spent a lot of my time taking pictures of bugger all trying to get a good pictures of a [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more!

Củ Chi Tunnels
Blog: Where is Rob? - 19 November 2009
While me going traveling was about 40% just one day deciding that this was what I wanted to do. There were a few countries and places that I had always wanted to visit that were the catalysts for me actually wanting to go explore the world in the first place. The Củ Chi tunnels in Vietnam was one of these places. I doubt Ollie can even remember the conversation we had upon his return to the UK [[ This is a content summary only. Hue
Blog: Where is Rob? - 19 November 2009
Hue was the first stop on our hop on/hop off bus ticket we brought from Hanoi. Hanoi to Hue was a 14 hour trek heading south and was our first experience of a sleeper bus. It was nothing like the rubbish V.I.P buses we used in Thailand and worked out a 1/5 of the price. For $45 we have got sleeper buses with lie down beds all the way from north of Vietnam to the south hitting 5 different cities. [[ This is a content summary only. Halong Bay/Cat Ba Island
Blog: Where is Rob? - 19 November 2009
Those of you who saw the Vietnam Top Gear special just before Christmas will already be familier with Halong Bay. This is the bay where they tried to sail around on their little converted moped boats.Halong by was a very bumpy 3 hour bus ride away from the capital almost directly east from Hanoi. Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Blog: Where is Rob? - 19 November 2009
Ho Chi Minh City was to be our final stop in Vietnam before we made our way to Cambodia and while I was really looking forward to hitting Cambodia I was pretty sad that this was going to be our last stop on our whistle stop tour of 'Nam.Ho Chi Minh city was unlike anywhere else we visited in Vietnam, it was hot, busy, noisy, dirty and sweaty. Hanoi
Blog: Where is Rob? - 19 November 2009
Hanoi was not what I expected at all from a capital city and it was such a contrast coming from Bangkok to here. The first thing I noticed when I stepped off the plane was the cold. The weather in the north of Vietnam really isn't very nice as it is currently the winter up here. Not only was it cold but it was also drizzling which is always horrible.
