Getting there & away
Most buses – but not all – leave from the main bus terminal (Mercado San José, Blvd 15 de Septiembre), about 2km west of the center. Cristina (441 2028), Diana Express (441 6460) and Catisa-Tupsa (441 2539) have offices there, serving Tela and San Pedro Sula. Contraibal-Cotuc (441 2199) stops at an office on the main highway, with service to/from Trujillo and San Pedro Sula. Hedman Alas (441 5347; www.hedmanalas.com) is located next to the Supermercado Ceibeño #4 on the main highway near the eastern end of town and has luxury service to Tela and San Pedro, with connections to Tegucigalpa and Copán Ruínas. Another luxury line, Viana Clase de Oro (441 2330), uses the Esso gas station 500m west of the main bus terminal and serves San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa. Two comfortable, air-conditioned ferries ply the water between La Ceiba, Roatán and Utila. For Roatán, the Galaxy Wave (443 4633, in Coxen Hole 445 1795) leaves at 9:30am and 4:30pm daily, taking 1¼ hours (coach/first-class US$21/26.50; children aged 5-10 half price). For Utila, the Utila Princess (in Utila 425 3390; US$22) leaves at 9:30am and 4pm daily and takes one hour. In the low season, the Utila ferry often runs just once a day at 4pm. La Ceiba’s main pier (Muelle Cabotaje) is about 8km east of town; a taxi to/from town costs US$1.60 per person. There is no regular passenger service to Guanaja or Cayos Cochinos, nor are there direct boats between Roatán and Utila.
La Ceiba’s Aeropuerto Golosón (443 3925) has frequent flights to/from San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa, the Bay Islands and La Moskitia. Services include a bank, an internet café and several car-rental agencies. There are various airline companies in La Ceiba:
