Cachi and Cactuses – Northern Argentina
Blog: Viva Latin America! - 17 February 2012
We’re staying in Salta, a pretty colonial city surrounded by mountains. We’ve visited the Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña, home to three fascinating Inca mummies who, as human sacrifices to the gods, froze to death on a mountain top and were left undiscovered for 500 years. We’ve toured the main square, and we’ve gone [...]

The Sensational Colours of Salta
Blog: Viva Latin America! - 22 October 2010
I am sure it could be considered cheating, but due to time considerations we chose to fly from Buenos Aires rather than take a 24 hour bus trip. Shame on us, I know, but we are not hardcore bus fans so sometimes the easier option is simply the easier option. We stayed at a nice [...]

Road Trippin’ – Northwest Argentina Part 1
Blog: Never Ending Voyage - 5 August 2010
Our Silver Stag bounded down Highway 68, the sun glistening off the reflective hood. Salmon rocks surrounded us in great shoals, rising up high to the edge of the road before falling back into great wide expanses while all the time backed by a vast ocean of blue.

Day 96-97: Hitchhiking the back road to Cafayate
Blog: Diaries of a Vagabonding Couple - 23 May 2010
Truckload of builders heading back to work It's hard to rub this smile off my face. I'm 30, but for once since 21 I feel invincible again. Here we are on the back of a pickup truck we just hitched, mountains in our faces, wind in our hair, bouncing along a lonely dirt road in northern Argentina. The unserviced back road to Cafayate We wanted to do a circular route around the wine region of

Salta to Cafayate to Cordoba, Argentina
Blog: Trip Down - 8 May 2010
Salta is a pleasant medium-sized town in Argentina’s northwest where I stayed at the luxurious Sumkama hotel (well after camping and Bolivia it would seem so). I spent most of my time recovering after freezing in the Andes for many weeks. I didn’t really see much of the city as I spent most of my [...]

San Pedro De Atacama to Salta Argentina
Blog: Trip Down - 6 May 2010
After the rain finally stopped in Ollague on the Chilean-Bolivian border I left on a sunny morning for the drive through the Atacama Desert (one of the driest places on earth) to San Pedro De Atacama, Chile. San Pedro is an oasis in the desert that is quite overly touristy. Before arriving in town I [...]

Cafayate in all it’s glory.
Blog: Documentariously Challenged - 27 April 2010
Well well well, so we’re back from Cafayate. It was only a mere 22 hour bus ride, but we’re back. It seems fitting that our last big bus ride would be an overly long one. And that it was. We left Mendoza on Tuesday night at 9pm, arriving at Tucuman around 10:30am. Luckily, we had [...]

A little more detail…
Blog: Documentariously Challenged - 27 April 2010
Todd covered the basics and a tad beyond, but last trip means last comments and as usual I am not at a loss for words. Â Wine, isn’t that one of the major reasons we decided Mendoza should be home base. Â So a trip to the second largest wine region in the country seemed appropriate. Â I [...]

Relaxing in Salta
Blog: Cogs Watch - 23 January 2010
So far this trip we've been on a schedule in order to get Mel back to Buenos Aires by the 14th for her flight home. This also coincided with a visit from Jules Heaton, a close friend of mine from uni who's been travelling the world working on yachts for the last couple of years. She was due to arrive in BA on the 15th. Things changed a little when Mel left us in Tupiza and flew from Salta in order to spend more time in BA, so Bec and I decided to use the extra days to visit Salta and Cordoba on the way through.

Salta, the Spaniard City
Blog: Nono in Guatemala - 19 January 2010
On the 4th of January, we were flying to Salta for our road trip. First it started raining and raining and raining… well we were lucky until then as it’s supposed to be the raining season. When we took the taxi to go to the airport, we could hardly see and thought we’ll never leave. We were supposed to leave at 3:15 pm but in the morning we heard the plane was leaving earlier (around 2 pm). So we rushed and finally ended up waiting and waiting and waiting… to leave after 5 pm!
