Welcome to Blanchisseuse
Winding north from Port of Spain, Saddle Rd becomes the North Coast Rd, climbing over the jungle-slathered mountains of the Northern Range and descending to the Caribbean coastline at Maracas Bay. The road narrows east of Maracas Bay, ending at the tiny village of Blanchisseuse (blan-she-shuhze), where the beautiful craggy coastline is dotted with plush holiday homes. The three beaches aren’t the best for swimming, especially in the fall and winter, but the surfing can be pretty good. The village is also the starting point for some great hikes, from coastal treks to Paria Bay to freshwater swimming in the Marianne River.
