Though it remains a small, mellow village, delightful Sant Joan de Labritja is one of northern Ibiza's main settlements (and a municipal capital). Along its charming little main street, you'll find a cluster of shops, venerable whitewashed cottages and a sprinkling of excellent cafe-restaurants with an organic leaning. Throw in a handful of enticing hotels and Sant Joan makes the perfect base for exploring the island's beautiful north.
Geographically isolated from Ibiza's capital and with its own distinct rural character, Sant Joan has long been a popular hangout for writers, artists and escapees. Counterculture is virtually mainstream here, and the village has played host to esoteric types ever since the days of the Bhagwan Rajneesh cult back in the 1970s.
On Sundays, Sant Joan hosts a wonderful local artisans' and farmers' market.
