Welcome to Cerkno
A sleepy village in the broad Cerknica River Valley, Cerkno is close to a remarkable WWII Partisan hospital hidden in a gorge and that alone is reason enough to visit. It's also an important destination for ethnologists and party-goers alike when the Laufarija, the ancient Shrovetide celebration, takes place. Cerkno's ski centre, around 10km away, is one of Slovenia's best, ensuring a busy winter season.
It's best not to visit Cerkno on a Monday, when both the museum and the Tourist Information Centre are closed.
