British architect Norman Foster's immensely pleasant reinterpretation of the traditional souq is a stylish composition of warm lattice woodwork, stained glass, walkways and balconies. On the site of the old central market, it connects with the modern World Trade Center Mall.
Carrying on the Gulf's trading post heritage, most of the items for sale at the shops here hail from India, Pakistan and other points east. Much of it falls into the mass-produced trinket category but there's a couple of spice shops and it's a pleasant place to browse with minimal hassle from stallholders. There are also several great spots for a bite to eat and drink.
