Welcome to East Cape

If coming from Alotau by public transport it's best to stay overnight. The first East Cape–bound PMV (K10) departs Alotau around 10am and the last one returns around 3pm, Monday to Saturday (two hours).

Bernhard’s Guesthouse is a simple beachside hut that has a pleasant veranda. It can supply sheets and simple meals (K20), but generally it’s bring-your-own all the way.

From East Cape, you can hire a boat to Nuakata Island, which has a reef that’s a biodiversity hot spot (independent marine reef surveys recorded 429 species of reef coral; more than the variety found in the entire Great Barrier Reef). Nuakata has several guesthouses, including the lovely Bomatu Guesthouse located on a sandy beach on the island’s eastern side.
