Welcome to Bandar Jissah
Bandar Jissah is the name given to the promontory that juts out sharply into the sea beyond Muscat's Al Bustan. This mountainous rump of russet-coloured rock is corrugated at the edges, creating picturesque bays and lagoons. Out to sea, layers of weathered sandstone, eroded by rough waters, have been fashioned into odd shapes such as cliffs with scooped-out channels near their bases and a sea arch that local fishermen delight in charging through at high speed. Small fishing villages have occupied the bays here for centuries, but they now share the striking landscape with the prestigious Shangri-La resort complex and the Muscat Hills Resort, which offers some excellent water-sports facilities. A road, cut spectacularly through the mountains, links Bandar Jissah with Yiti and Bandar Khayran. The whole area offers a relaxed holiday experience, a weekend retreat from Muscat or a day's outing from the city.
