The tour leaves from Durban and passes through Pietermaritzburg ,which is the capital and second largest city in the province. This city is set amidst the forested hills and rolling countryside of the Natal-Midlands. Pietermaritzburg is one of the best-preserved Victorian cities in the world.The tour then carries onto Sani Pass which is a World Heritage Site between South Africa and Lesotho 2874 metres above sea level. The Sani Pass is the mother of all passes. It is a 33km gravel road that straddles the sheer cliffs of the Drakensburg escarpment in a series of tight zig zag curves. It is an amazing 4x4 track twisting and snaking it's way up to the top of the world. You cross the South African/ Lesotho border post which is 1968m above sea level (passports required) entering into Lesotho country. Here you will meet the Sotho people who have a unique African mountain culture. Day 1: Arrival in Maseru (L, D) Meet a private driver at Maseru’s Moshoeshoe I International Airport for transfer to your hotel. If time allows, take a short orientation tour of Maseru, visit a local craft center, and stop by the Maseru Post Office to pick up official Lesotho stamps. Day 2: Guided tour of Morija and Maletsunyane Falls (B,L,D) Meet a driver/guide after breakfast and depart for Morija, the oldest town in Lesotho. Make the first stop of the day at the Morija Museum, and browse exhibits of Basotho artifacts, as well as memorabilia from the Lifaqane conflict and the Boer War.
