Welcome to Lake Bosumtwe & Abono

Located 38km southeast of Kumasi, the village of Abono is the gateway to Lake Bosumtwe; it is a popular weekend holiday spot for Kumasi residents, who come here to relax and swim. It's also a sacred site. The Ashanti people believe that their souls come here after death to bid farewell to the god Twi. Historically, dugout canoes and boats were forbidden on the lake, but the tide has turned and Bosumtwe becomes a haven for water-sport enthusiasts on the weekends.

Foreign visitors will be charged C5 upon arriving in Abono.
