Right on the Norwegian border, the village of Karigasniemi (Sámi: Gáregasnjárga) sits on the picturesque banks of the Inarijoki, which becomes the Tenojoki 4km to the north when it joins the Karasjoki, and is popular with anglers fishing for the river's renowned salmon. It makes a handy refuelling stop for petrol as well as supplies. Locals speak Fell Sámi, the main Sámi language of northern Norway.
