Welcome to Timber Creek
Tiny Timber Creek is the only town between Katherine and Kununurra. It lies in the heart of spectacular country, a pre-Kimberley world of rivers and red-rock escarpments – the road here from Victoria River Crossing is especially pretty. This has long been the traditional lands of the Ngaliwurru and Nungali Aboriginal people, whose world was turned upside down in 1855 with the arrival of a European exploration party led by AC Gregory; when repairs on their boat, Tom Tough, were carried out with local timber, the name took hold for the white settlement that grew up here.
