Welcome to Puerto Pirámides
Set amid sandy cliffs by a bright blue sea, this sleepy old salt port now bustles with tour buses and visitors clad in orange life jackets. Whales bring whopping and ever-growing tourism. But at the end of the day the tour buses split and life in this two-street town regains its cherished snail’s pace. Av de las Ballenas is the main drag, which runs perpendicular to Primera (1era) Bajada, the first road to the beach, stuffed with tour outfitters.
While most visitors focus on whale watching, adventure offerings continue to grow. If planning whale watching from Puerto Madryn, it's helpful to look at the forecast, as high winds and storms can close the port.
