Welcome to Darshai
At Darshai (Даршай) mountain streams howl out of a narrow canyon and hurtle beneath the road towards the Pyanj River below. The village, which is not much more than a hamlet, makes a good base for hiking up the Darshai Gorge. Boards showing some of the natural attractions, including Marco Polo sheep and ibex, mark the access point close to the mazor enclosure beside the stream. The trekking route leads beyond the gorge towards Mayakovsky Peak (6095m) and across a snowy 4941m pass to the Shokh Dara Valley – a route requiring planning, supplies and guided support.
