Perched atop 300m-high limestone Montgrí hills, Torroella de Montgrí's castle heralds your arrival to this busy town, 6km inland from L'Estartit and the Golf de Roses. Grittier and less visited than the Costa Brava’s other towns, Torroella has some atmospheric lanes in its grid-like centre, particularly around Plaça de la Vila. Hikers may want to climb up to the castle; otherwise, Torroella mostly serves as a way station between Girona and the Costa Brava.
