Níjar, a pristine white town in the foothills of the Sierra Alhamilla, is best known for its glazed pottery and handwoven rugs known as jarapas. These are widely available in shops and showrooms on the main drag, Avenida García Lorca, and in the old potters' quarter, the Barrio Alfarero. Shopping apart, the town has a quaint old town, centred on leafy Plaza La Glorieta, and huge views from its signature monument, the Atalaya watchtower.
