Main's best fish and chips. This busy spot combines a seafood wet counter and a bustling fry operation. Order from the cashier, snag a spot at the stand-up table inside or sit-down benches outside and wait to be called. Battered halibut and cod are popular, but we love the wild salmon, served with fries and a mound of 'slaw.

There's much more to the menu than fish and chips, though. Check the regularly changing special (steamed halibut dumplings on our visit) or consider the fish tacos, oyster po'boys and a stomach-warming chowder that will fill you for a week. Add a beverage from the excellent array of artisan pop bottles (anyone for dandelion and burdock?) and you'll be set.
