Academy of Music

Philadelphia

Known as the Grand Old Lady of Locust St, the gas lamps on the front of this renovated 1857 opera house set the tone for the gorgeous baroque interior. It's a real treat to see a show here.

Check with the Kimmel Center for tickets and also about architectural tours, which they sometimes offer here. Their annual Anniversary Concert and Ball, held in January, is a spectacular white-tie event and throughout the year there's a great lineup of artists including performers of the caliber of Patti Labelle, Jerry Seinfeld and the Pennsylvania Ballet.
