Machneyuda

Top choice in Jerusalem

Is it New York comfort food, Italian fine dining or haute cuisine? This superb restaurant owned by three of Israel's most acclaimed chefs near Mahane Yehuda Market has won local acclaim for its playful menu, which offers Catalan-style calamari, black linguine with crab and good ol' fashioned steak and potatoes. Book well in advance, and pray there's semolina cake.

The adventurous should try the shakshukit, a sort-of market free-for-all dish combining sesame paste, a mixture of ground beef, organ meats, pickled mango sauce, grilled onions and spices, topped with yoghurt and pine nuts.

A next-door 'deli' named Leyada where you can order takeaway opened in 2018.
