FNB Stadium

Gauteng

Previously known as Soccer City, this was the headquarters of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The stadium is shaped like a calabash and dominates the abandoned mining tracts on the outskirts of Soweto. It’s an architectural treat, courtesy of Bobby van Bebber, that reminds hazy locals that they did indeed host the famous sporting event.

If you want to walk through the players’ race and imagine forgotten glory, take an excellent guided tour.
