Attica

Top choice in St Kilda, Elwood & Elsternwick

Attica is Australia's only restaurant on San Pellegrino's World's Top 50 Restaurants list. Ben Shewry creates contemporary dishes with native ingredients, like saltwater crocodile rib glazed with spiced honey, and dessert served in emu eggs. It's even more popular since starring in Netflix's Chef's Table; reservations are taken on the first Wednesday of the month for the following three months.

Jump online at 9am, but note that tables of two go quickly, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. You'll have a better chance booking midweek or with a table for four or more. Those who enjoy Attica the most know the story of the chef and the restaurant and appreciate the innovative use of native Australian ingredients. Others less up for broadening their culinary repertoire might leave with lighter pockets and the lingering taste of black ants and disappointment. Open minds and die-hard food lovers are the ones who get the most out of Attica. If driving, follow Brighton Rd south and turn left onto Glen Eira Rd.
