    Nuam Chin Traditional Store

Handmade, elaborately patterned Chin longyi at this shop across from the CB Bank can sell for a whopping K260,0000 – antique ones for K600,000! That gives some idea of the quality of the goods, which include small bags, filigreed silver belts and less-expensive machine-made longyi, all sold in Yangon's Bogyoke Aung San Market and exported to other countries in the region.

  • Shopping in Mindat

    Market

Sacrificing atmosphere for organisation, Mindat's new, institutional-looking and orderly indoor market is just off the main road. Small stalls sell everything from ordinary household goods and produce – you'll see tattoo-faced elderly women shopping – to a good number selling traditional Chin clothes, bags and purses, which make good souvenirs.

  • Shopping in Gangaw

    Central Market

Of manageable size and fairly well-ordered, Gangaw's market is worth a stroll, especially for sampling street food and snacks such as saw nyin nakin, a sweet semolina cake.
