Welcome to Reserva de la Biosfera Sierra Gorda
Those with a love of nature, historic churches or a hankering to get off the beaten track should not miss the scenic Reserva de la Biosfera Sierra Gorda, in northeast Querétaro, which thanks to recent ecotourism projects is becoming increasingly accessible to visitors. The landscapes here are breathtaking, with impressive mountains, thick forest and rushing rivers characterizing the terrain. The Sierra Gorda is also home to five Franciscan Missions founded in the 18th century, spread out within a day's drive and now inscribed as Unesco World Heritage sites. The only limitation is transportation: while it's possible to get to some places by bus, it's much easier and less time consuming if you have your own wheels.
