The gems in this dusty grid complex of houses and offices built to house the workers of Kuwait’s oil industry in the 1940s and 1950s are its oil museums. Named after the emir of the day, Sheikh Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Al Ahmadi is surrounded by sand and remains, to some extent, the private preserve of the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). On the border of the municipality is the Camel Racing Club, where those who dare can drive alongside the desert animals as they race at speed.
