Welcome to Ogimachi
Ogimachi (荻町), the Shirakawa-gō region's central and most accessible settlement, has the largest concentration of gasshō-zukuri buildings – more than 110. Sadly, mass tourism has turned the village into a rather dismal theme park; the valley is overrun with tour buses and many inhabitants seem hardened by the influx. Visit Ogimachi only if you're very motivated to take in gasshō-zukuri architecture but too pressed for time to travel to settlements further into the Gokayama mountains.
Generally, for tourism purposes the names Ogimachi and Shirakawa-gō are interchangeable.
