Almost totally destroyed by Allied bombs in 1944, San Casciano in Val di Pesa, to the south of Florence, was fully rebuilt and is now a busy hub for the local wine and olive-oil industries. There are no sights of note within the town itself, but the surrounding countryside is home to a number of impressive agriturismi (farm-stay accommodation) and villas.
