Welcome to Parque Nacional Montaña de Santa Bárbara
Overlooking Lago de Yojoa, the Parque Nacional Montaña de Santa Bárbara is home to the majestic Montaña de Santa Bárbara (aka El Maroncho, as many locals call it). At 2744m, it's the second-highest peak in Honduras – and looks absolutely mammoth from afar. A protected area since 1987, the park is a 321-sq-km combination of tropical, pine and cloud forest. It is also composed entirely of limestone, which means there are lots of caves and tunnels, and no visible water at higher elevations, as it is absorbed by the porous rock.
Parque Nacional Montaña de Santa Bárbara does not have any tourist infrastructure – trails are unmarked although a few have been recently cut by D&D Brewery, and there are no campgrounds or park services.
