Colombia’s vibrant, engaging capital is chock-full of fascinating museums – 50+ at last count! Whether you’re interested in history, gold, science or art, you’ll find astounding collections tucked into preciously preserved colonial buildings. Most are found in La Candelaria, the cobbled historic downtown and cultural epicentre. Here, 300-year-old homes, churches and convents have been converted to restaurants, bars and hotels as well as museums. Wandering in-and-out of museums and churches is a lovely way to spend a day – but don’t try it on a Sunday, when they’re crammed with locals. Even modest museums that don’t make our list have 45-minute lines outside on a Sunday. Mid-week is much quieter.
