Chiloé Island Highlights Full-Day Tour from Puerto Montt

This full-day tour will leave from Puerto Montt early in the morning and take the Panamericana Route 5 towards south for about 80 miles to reach the town of Pargua.In Pargua we take a ferry that will allow us to cross the Chacao Canal and reach the Isla Grande de Chiloe.There we go to the town of Chacao, one of the oldest villages of the island founded in 1567 which has a typical square where stands a curious and picturesque building of strong color. Visit the church, which is in addition to the more than 150 churches in Chiloé as well as many National Monuments. Then we will go to the city of Ancud, visit the Plaza de Armas, the Church, the crafts market, the Museum, the Gulf of Quitalmahue, Cerro Huaihuén and Fort San Antonio, historic site located in the uptown built in the late eighteenth century, all in the midst of stories of customs and myths of one of the larger islands of South America. Please note that tickets to the Museum of Ancud are not included. Later we will go to Castro, capital of Chiloé Island, visit the local Church of Castro which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, handicrafts market and the Mirador del Barrio Gamboa to appreciate the famous "Palafitos" typical constructions made wooden pillars on water.We finish our tour visiting Dalcahue, famous for its craft fair on Sundays where locals bring from the outer islands of the archipelagos the most varied handicrafts for marketing. During the tour we will have time for lunch in a typical restaurant Chiloé Island (own expense).

The island of Chiloé: Castro Dalcahue

A full day, magical tour leaving from Puerto Varas. In order to delve into the Chilote world, we begin our day by taking a boat down the Chacao canal for 30 minutes, where we spot a wide variety of birds, before arriving to the village of Chacao to visit its square and church.We will continue on to Castro to stop for lunch. Then, we will visit the stilted houses of Rio Gamboa, the square and its church which was declared a Unesco World Heritage site. Next, we will visit the recently restored Nercón Church (1890), which is a national monument and is also on Unesco’s protected list.The day continues in Dalcahue, where we stop on the waterfront to take in the wonderful natural landscape and visit the local artisan market, museum and church.

Chiloe Island: Castro & Dalcahue

Departure from Puerto Varas towards Chiloé, an island rich in traditions and myths that have survived because of the archipelago’s isolation from the continent, and famous for the locals’ warmth and hospitality. To reach this magical island you must first navigate the Canal de Chacao for 30 minutes. The crossing departs from Pargua, a town located on the continental limit of Chile. During the navigation get the chance to watch a variety of birds and sea lions, before reaching the town of Chacao where you will visit the square and church. The trip continues along the coastal Llao Llao road to Dalcahue, home of a traditional handicraft fair with loom knit clothing, and crafts in local woods. Visit the Dalcahue church, a national monument and World Heritage Site (2000) and enjoy some free time to have lunch (if option is selected). Later travel to Castro, famous for its stilt houses or Palafitos. Visit to the Handicraft Fair of Castro, where the woollen, wooden, and stone articles are a must-see. Make a stop at the San Francisco church, famous for its detailed woodwork and size. Finally visit the church of Nercón. Return to your hotel.
