Welcome to Knokke-Heist
Knokke is the preferred summer destination for Belgium’s bourgeoisie. It’s a sprawling place with a renowned nightlife scene that caters to a rather insular clique. Architecturally, Knokke’s monotonous central high-rises look far from elite, but there’s a plenty of art galleries and swanky shops, while low-rise mansions extend for several kilometres through neighbouring Duinburgen and De Zoute. Within the Casino Knokke hides an incredible 72m circular mural by René Magritte and a superb 1974 Paul Delvaux lit by one of Europe’s biggest glass chandeliers. However, none of the above is visible to gamblers or visitors. Ask at the tourist office if they plan a tour.
