Welcome to Río Caribe
The former splendor of the old port town of Río Caribe can be spotted along the wide, tree-shaded Av Bermúdez with its once-magnificent mansions. Once a major cacao exporter, the town, a perfect example of faded grandeur, now serves as a laid-back holiday destination and a springboard for incredible beaches further east. Don’t miss the 18th-century church on Plaza Bolívar or the weekend activity at Plaza Sucre, along Av Bermúdez closer to the beach. Do, however, be careful at night, and don't roam off the main avenue. Río Caribe is best used as a base for exploring the fantastic Península de Paria.
