Welcome to Ticonderoga & Essex
Things are quiet on the New York shores of idyllic Lake Champlain. Even in summer the town of Essex doesn't get as much action as other lakeside destinations, but that makes it worth a visit in and of itself. What it lacks in hustle and bustle, it makes up for in perfectly lazy days and well preserved pre–Civil War architecture historic homes that landed the hamlet on the National Register of Historic Places. Further down the shore is Ticonderoga, home of the legendary American Revolution–era Fort Ticonderoga.
