Welcome to Ocean Grove
Immediately south of Asbury Park, Ocean Grove is a kind of time and culture warp. 'God's Square Mile at the Jersey Shore,' as it's known, was founded by Methodists in the 19th century as a revival camp, and it's still a dry town (no liquor) and the beach is closed on Sunday mornings. The Victorian architecture is so covered in gingerbread trim that you may want to eat it. At the center, around a 6500-seat wooden auditorium with a huge pipe organ, the former revival camp is now Tent City – a historic site with more than a hundred quaint canvas tents used as summer homes.
