Welcome to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
You can't get much further off the grid than Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, a huge, exotic park along the Mexican border. It's a gorgeous, forbidding land that supports an astonishing number of animals and plants, including 28 species of cacti, first and foremost its namesake organ pipe. Giant and columnar organ pipe cacti are common in Mexico, but very rare north of the border. The monument is also the only place in the US to see the senita cactus, nicknamed 'old man's beard' for its hairy white tufts.
