Welcome to Cottonwood
Founded in 1879 and booming by the 1920s, Cottonwood is now enjoying something of a renaissance. For decades the city was one of the less interesting communities in central Arizona – simply a good place to find budget lodging near Sedona. But today? Cottonwood, particularly its walkable Old Town district, is buzzing with new restaurants, stylish wine-tasting rooms and an eclectic array of indie shops. And, so far, it remains a cheap and convenient base for regional exploring. Located in the Verde Valley, it's only 16 miles from Sedona and 9 miles from Jerome.
The old mining town of Clarkdale sits just off Hwy 89A between Jerome and Cottonwood. Clarkdale was a company town built in 1914 to process ore from the mines in nearby Jerome.
